LEE-Z-ANNA 5/1/2017

I have finally made it to the wonderful Louisiana!! I am serving in the Brownlee/Bossier area with the fabulous Sister Soto. 
We are killing it. Literally. Our numbers are all dead. They are showing wide eyes and goose eggs from where we slammed them!
Okay so they were all zeros. Fine. Whatever. That's what happens when only 4 numbers are reported and you don't have anyone that could fit into those categories... yet. 😏

We are going to blow these folks away with our hard work! Prepare yourselves! 

This week has been a whirlwind of getting my stuff packed, saying goodbye to the folks I have loved to serve for 6 months, saying goodbye to Purvis and Sister Allred, driving for 6 hours on a transfer van, meeting my new companion, driving to the apartment, unloading my stuff, grocery shopping, unpacking my bedding, climbing into bed, and dying!
Then getting to know the area day by day. Still working on that last one. But from my experience in the last 5 days, this is shaping up to be a good transfer! Bishop Burns is awesome and supportive, Brother Ramierez gave a FIRE talk about member missionary work and called the whole ward to repentance!, and Sister Soto is awesome! 

Here is the spotlight on Sister Katherine Lorena Soto:
-From Taylorsville, UT
-2 months older than myself
-Been out for 1 year
-Loves animals (yep. we are already besties because of that one)
-Wants to be vet tech (yep. basically twins. Told her she could come work for me when I am a vet)
-Has two brothers, one older and one younger, and a younger sister
-Came out despite medical issues that threatened to keep her home
-Has a strong testimony that gives her the courage to speak up despite her fear of talking to people
-Awesome
-Kind and supportive

So basically, this is going to be an awesome transfer, possibly two. Sister Soto might be the one that gets to kill me off!

I have had some awesome experiences this week that have manifested the love my Heavenly Father has for me and the infinite love and mercy of my Saviour Jesus Christ. I have written a lot in my journal these past 7 days! SO grateful for these experiences and the insight they are giving me. I can't wait to see y'all again and see your shining faces and share these wonderful stories with y'all! 
But until then, I am going to put my heart full in to this work and work my little tail off until July 19th!

Transfers 4/24/2017

I is leaving Purvis after 6 months. Sad to say goodbye to everyone, but excited to start a new adventure! 
Prayers my new companion and area will treat me well for these last two transfers! 🙏 
This week we prepared for the possibility of me leaving. Got the area book up to date, tracted so Sister Allred would have some bomb people to teach if I left, and generally just lived it up. 
We also had the fabulous opportunity to go on exchanges with the sister training leaders. I got to go with the fantastic Sister Pitt and have the time of my life. We both served near each other when I was in Clinton and she was in Vicksburg. We talked about all the drama surrounding the departure of some missionaries after they used their agency to make some very bad choices. She and Sister John were the ones that had to shoulder the brunt of the effort of working it all out. Ridiculous. I thought we were all adults here. 'pparently not. Respect for some of these people is dive bombing. So sad to see it. We also got to talk about some awesome things and blow each others' minds with the insight we gained during studies. It was a really good exchange! We truly had so much fun together!

I will have to hunt Dianne down after the mish because she is being a little turd and not responding to anyone's texts so I haven't been able to say goodbye to her. Her and live in boyfriend are making some pretty deep choices that are making them look for someone else to blame. Creating a lot of drama for the people here. Poor Elders. Their investigator is the boyfriend. He won't let them come see him anymore. And texted them yesterday to let them know they need to stop visiting their neighbors. It was "creating issues" for them and "keeping them from staying on the down low." Whatever. Poor children. They threatened to file a lawsuit against the Church. Drama! Ridiculous!! 

Anyways... It was a good week! Drama and all. I am looking forward to seeing what this next transfer brings! It's gonna be great! I am determined to make these last two the best ever! Hopefully God helps me out with that. But I will try to do it whatever is thrown at me. Sigh. Please. Please let these transfers be enjoyable!

Sorry I don't have a lot this week. I am just excited and nervous to get transferred. But as President likes to say to me around this time, "You don't grow in your comfort zone Sister Lindberg. You have to do things that make you uncomfortable to grow."

It's Already Been Fourteen Months?!? 4/17/2017

Y'all this is crazy!! I was writing in my journal yesterday and realized it had already been a year since last Easter. I remember where I was, what we ate (roast, potatoes, pasta salad, salad, rolls, and homemade brownies and chocolate chip cookies with the whole Boone Clan) and what our conversations were. It's crazy! Doesn't seem like it has already been a year since then! And that it has been almost fourteen months since I arrived here in humid Mississippi! I remember sitting on the back porch of the mission home, talking with Sister Maynes, and listening to the birds and the bugs while eating frutie o's. Now I'm here. Time flies. 

This week has been pretty regular in terms of missionary work. We have been waking up bright and early at 6:30, dragging ourselves out of bed, onto the floor to pray, and then into the bathroom to brush our teeth and wake up enough to exercise. Then into the shower. To the kitchen, after getting ready, to eat breakfast and take vitamins. Planning is followed by personal studying. Then the real fun starts as we head out for the day. Activities range from service at a thrift store, tracting in the heat and humidity, visting less actives and trying to help them once again "sing the song of redeeming love" so they can "feel so now" or trying to track down our illusive investigators and bring them into the fold. Never a dull moment, and never a day the same as the one before. Oh how I love being a missionary. Even when it may not be so successful. It is all worth it at the end of the day when I can look back and see the people whose life I have touched in some small way. The smile as I waved at someone. The tears of someone hearing about Christ in a different way for the first time and feeling the Spirit. 

We had Zone Conference this week and were uplifted and inspired as usual. The Assistants were there to share a cool presentation about our work. Elder Gilbert made a video that is fashioned after Paul Harvey's video "So God made a farmer" called "So God made a missionary."
It was powerful. 
God needed someone who was willing to walk for miles to find that one soul in need, so God made a missionary.
He needed someone willing to put in 40 hard hours before Wednesday afternoon, and then finishing that, go out and put in 70 more. So God made a missionary. 

I will have to get the video and send it to y'all so you can watch it. So amazing! Made me even more proud and humbled to be wearing this badge upon my chest.

Switching gears a little. I have bee questioned multiple times this week about my legs and the condition they are in. I just laugh a little and say "bugs. That's what I get for walking around all the time. LOTS of bug bites." Y'all. I may need some medical help with all these scars. You truly can't appreciate the full magnitude of them in the picture I took, but you get the gist of it. ahaha. sigh. Bugs. 

I have been accumulating some names from Mississippi for my future children. Here are some of the ones from this week:

Prepare yourselves children. Your names will NOT be found on those souvenir key chains. They will be one of a kind! 😂😉

I saw fireflies this week. Just thought I would let you know. They are pretty cool. Brought back memories of sitting on the lawn in Nauvoo when Grandma and Grandpa went to the Temple and watching the fireflies. Beautiful creatures!

BTW. Transfers are next week. Probably be leaving here. 6 months already under my belt. President probably hardly lets people stay that long in an area so another transfer will be really pushing it. but I will be fine, kind of, with either. I will keep you posted!

Service, Service, and More Service. Also Some Teaching...Followed By More Service 4/10/2017

😘😘😘This week has been filled with service. We have done everything from helping at the thrift shop to digging a septic tank line. Needless to say, my whole body has been sore. 

I will tell you about this and then about the other stuff we did this week!

First, Tuesday. We headed over to The Thompson's house to help Reo Grover Sr. dig the septic tank line. Really he just supervised on his tractor. Old age and whatnot. His first comment when we arrived, "You have used a shovel before right?" I looked him straight faced and said "No! What is a shovel? How do you use this 'shovel'?" He thought I was being serious for about a minute until I finally started laughing and told him that of course I had used a shovel. And yes, I knew how to work hard. Don't worry Reo. I can do this! 
We were told to dig down about 2 feet, 10-12 feet long, so we could put the line down in the whole. He was pleasantly surprised at how fast we got to work and how fast we were progressing. SA said that we were bound to have nice abs by the end of it from all the twisting and digging as we dug and threw the dirt out of the hole. Reo looked very confused and asked, "what are abs? Like the ones on the phone?" 😂 Nope Reo. Different abs. 
We took some fun pictures, which will follow. 
We ended up finishing in 2ish hours which surprised Reo since he was sure we wouldn't be able to do it, being ladies and all. Challenge accepted Reo. Challenge accepted. 

We also volunteered at 360, the thrift store in town. The people there are a hoot. We have been going in on Wednesday mornings to volunteer before district meeting. This Wednesday they had just gotten in a balloon party pack, which included a helium tank, balloons, and string. We of course had to test it to see if it worked. Just to make sure. Andjewn (antoine) decided we should all tie balloons somewhere on our bodies and walk around with them. Just for fun. So we did. We looked pretty silly and everyone got a good laugh out of it! Good start to a day!

Another service activity involved helping Heather Gipson, who we watched General Conference with, deconstruct a pool she was given so she could transport it to her house. Turned out to be a HUGE task. We enlisted the help of the Elders and spent some good times unscrewing screws, tearing up decks, getting up and personal with devil wasp nests (my nose literally touched the nests, and the wasps. Good thing I wasn't stung. That would have HURT!) and digging like dogs in sand to get the posts out. I will send some fun pictures of that! Heather's brother was impressed when he showed up to help and saw Elder Wells and I rolling up the metal support wall that goes around the whole pool. One of us on each side. We were both soaked with filthy water from the pool, which had been sitting almost empty in the sun, and filled up with algae and nastiness. We were also covered in sand from digging out the posts, and were dripping in sweat from the heat and the exertion of rolling up the heavy wall. We then carried that wall and the very heavy pool liner onto the trailer. Chris was trying to figure out who could carry it since there was only three men. I jumped in and Chris looked at me like 😯🤔 I laughed and Elder Wells just nodded. Hahah. I paid the price for that one. I woke up the next morning with sore arms and aching muscles throughout my body! 
Funny side story. The pool liner was brought home and we began scrubbing the algae and heavily dried on leaves off. Then, after an hour of scrubbing, Heather saw a hole in the liner that would prevent the liner from working in the pool. She made the decision to get rid of it. So we rolled it up and carried it up the hill, slowly due to the weight of it, to the park strip by the mailbox for the county to pick up. 
It disappeared the next morning. Heather thought the county had picked it up. Then SA and I went to visit our investigator Patrick, who lives across the street from Heather in a camping trailer while he is building a house into the hill. He is a bit of a hoarder of random things. And we look around and see the pool liner. I died laughing. I don't have any idea how he got it in his truck! It took all four of us, all adults, three of whom were strong men, to get it up to the mailbox!

Now onto "the other stuff" we did this week!

Christan's two children, Ava and Grayson, were blessed in Church yesterday! I was so excited to see it happen! It is amazing to have been a part of this whole process, from teaching her and preparing her for baptism, to her actual baptism, and now her children becoming more a part of it all as they are put on the records of the Church. So humbling and remarkable!!!
Christan is truly an amazing woman that is working hard to make the best for her kids. She is devoted and loving to everything and everyone! I love her so much!!!

Rebecca, our investigator that I have been so excited about, dropped us. She had a date set to shoot for for baptism and was loving everything we got to discuss with her. She was a shining example of what missionaries ask for in their investigators. Then something happened. We don't really know what, though we have tried to get more information to better help her address her concerns. But it all comes down to the fact that she no longer wants to be baptized or meet with us. She has asked us to not come by anymore and told us she will continue searching in her own way. We were really saddened by it, especially the timing of it. The past couple weeks have been a little slow in regards to teaching. We have been hoping that it will all work out, but we are quickly getting tired of driving around, from door to door, only to have our investigators not home, not interested anymore, or simply too busy to meet with us right then. We then end up trying to knock on doors, usually with little success. Then we went to read with Rebecca, who said she would love for us to come over Tuesday evening. Then she said she wanted us to come so she could tell us in person that she wasn't interested anymore. Sigh. Another bites the dust. 
We will continue to hold out hope and trust. I know God has a plan for us! 

We had our Stake Women's Conference this weekend. It was such a good time! The highlight was a video we watched about how our decisions determine our destiny. We also had a book exchange and got to get some new religious books to enjoy! The one I am reading now, "Why I Believe" includes the testimonies of prominent members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is so good!

One of the classes at the conference talked about Strong Women in Christ. The sister presenting the class shared this poem as she talked about how we can truly become strong women in Christ.

Last night I had an interesting thought last night as I was writing in my journal. I wrote down my thoughts and the experiences for the day, then got down to pray before going to bed. As I was praying, the words came to mind "Thank you Heavenly Father for having a plan for each of your children" then "and thank thee for thy Son and His sacrifice that made it possible for all these plans possible" It was interesting to think of it that way. God has a Plan for each of His children, but it is through Christ's sacrifice that all those plans are made possible. Cool to think about.
